Jairams, a techie couple from Mumbai, always dreamt of a home in the sussegad Goa. In their fifties, they purchased a small plot in South Goa, and during the Covid-19 pandemic, decided to take early retirement and relocate there permanently. Their brief was specific; a compact, easy-to-maintain home that could have space around for leisure activities, while planning adhering closely to Vastu principles.
The contemporary two-storey residence is positioned towards the south and west of the plot, allowing the northern and eastern portions to remain open as private landscaped spaces, with the flexibility to accommodate a pool or tennis court in the future. Living, dining and kitchen spaces open onto shaded verandahs, the transition zone between indoors and the tropical landscape. The guest bedroom suite has flexibility of functioning as an independent unit.
The upper floor houses the private bedrooms, a compact office for the Jairam couple and a small terrace. Each bedroom extended outwards into a balcony. The office occupies the northeast corner, extending into a L shaped balcony. The structure appears like a winged bird ready to take off in the north east direction.
