Anura House is a renovation project, shaped through a creative collaboration between Studio Suxma and clients who are artists. Originally built to function as a guesthouse and later a playschool, the building had a structurally sound framework but a fragmented layout. This planning did not suit the artist couple who wanted the house to function as their home and studio.
Material conservation and adaptive reuse became integral to the project. Existing metal railings, aluminum window frames and roofing tiles were retained and repurposed. Curved metal railings, Georgian-bar doors and windows, black-and-white plaster bands, and chajjas finished with terracotta tiles define its architectural expression. Cement IPS flooring adds a restrained, tactile quality to the interiors.
Through a considered balance of spatial re-organisation, material reuse and climate-responsive interventions, Anura House evolves into a cohesive contemporary home which nestles peacefully into its tropical Goan village setting.
